I’m starting to refine my style personality. I’m realizing that I like to wear sets. I enjoy monochromatic looks. I like structure. I like classic looks with a twist.
I made these jeans first. I had found an off-white herringbone textured denim (not available online) at Mood Fabrics on one of my trips with no exact plan. I just know that I wanted a nice pair of white jeans. When I saw this McCalls 8630 high-waisted pattern, I knew I wanted it in either a white or red or gold even. I went with the white clearly.
I made this a couple of months ago but recently saw that Khaite had a very similar silhouette selling for $620!!

Once done, I knew I wanted this to be a set. It was screaming it wanted to be part of a duo and I had fabric left over for a small top or vest. Vests are very in season so I decided to go with that and the pattern image is actually a white set so that may have influenced me too.
I made View B and size 14 based off of the finished measurements. I wanted a more fitted fitted snatched fit. It’s a straight forward and great pattern. The thickness is the denim gave my home machine ISSUES going over the waistband and belt loops. I took it to the trusted Jonathan Embroidery in midtown for the buttonhole and button installation. I omitted the extra tightening strap on the back of the pants because of the thickness but also didn’t want to do too much on the back. I thought it was perfect without.

The vest is Simplicity 3200 View B, also sized to 14 for a more fitted silhouette. This also was a pretty quick and straight pattern. The instructions helped when it came to the collar and lapels. The only difficulty was the thickness of the denim. I had to finish the understitching around the sleeves by hand to get the lining to sit and not turn out but you gotta do what you gotta do for the final look. I’d committed to the denim. Again, the button holes and matching buttons were installed by Jonathan Embroidery and I can’t wait to prance around in this somewhere! Where’s a disco when you need one?!
