This is one of those projects where I saw it, liked it, saved it, looked it up, bought the pattern and drove to Joann to buy everything I needed to make immediately.
I am working on a new series **looking eyes emoji** but I’m in planning mode. (That’s short for I’m low key procrastinating and nervous to make the first cut!!) I still needed a project to get going and get that instant gratification. It gets my sewing mojo going. This BF Bestie Bag was perfect for that! I enjoyed putting this together and the pattern was nice and clear. I did get ambitious with the fabric and made some missteps and learned some things for next time I make it and next time I use this fabric.
Speaking of, I used this camo quilted ripstop for the body and this beautiful black bull demin (need more to make a pair of jeans) both from Joann.
As far as lessons learned from making this bag……I definitely used the wrong zipper. I got a 22″ jacket zipper because it was strong and study for a bag. This became problematic when I had to put zipper stops on and the metal stop got in the way. I really had to work around it while sewing and topstitching. I also learned I had to be very careful sewing ripstop. I couldn’t finish topstitching the outside of the bag. The bottom walking feet snagged the ripstop when I was securing the beginning and end of my seams. It even snagged when I was trying to shimmy the bag under the foot to topstitch. I left it at a quarter of the way topstitch, which KILLS me!!! Even the snags are eating at my soul but my sister said that they didn’t look that bad. I also should’ve started with a fresh ultra sharp needle but I still love it and super happy that I stuck to making the larger size.
