Camo Ruffles Summer Set

It’s been a long time since I’ve sewn and posted regularly. A lot has happened and life has been life-ing. A new job or two and new focuses haven’t allowed for much mental space or time to make but I feel more settled and my To Make list is now MILES long. I’m a little out of practice but here we go!

As a lot of great inspiration begins, I saw a skirt on Pinterest that I couldn’t stop thinking about. As that was floating around in my mind, I found this beautifully soft camo gauze fabric at Joann. Now, that’s floating around waiting to be assigned a project. I settled on making the inspiration skirt out of a hot pink gauze to pair with a striped off the shoulder number (ooooo la la!! stay tuned for that folks! To Do list grows!) but I wanted to make a wearable toile first. In comes the match.

The base for the skirt is the Avery Skirt by Kdornbier Designs. I wanted a high-waisted straight pencil skirt shape that I’d make into a wrap skirt. I extended the length to 36″. I made the back body of the skirt 24″ and added a 12″ ruffle and added a wide flounce to the right side of the wrap skirt with the top of the flounce ending in the waistband. I made a super long waistband to wrap around and make a long bow when tied to the back. I added a snap closure a bit down the side of the wrap skirt for when I want a bit of coverage but I see me wearing this more on vacation over a bikini or a summer family bbq, like how I wore it last night.

Once I made the skirt and decided that I’d really really wear this in real life, I draped a top for it. Something cropped and open. I hadn’t draped anything in a very long time and it was nice to do again. The top ended up being a smidge too short and the summer season was ending so there she sat and sat and sat. I also wasn’t looking forward to redo-ing the top so I kept stalling. I want to make more projects and I had to finish this to move on in good conscience so I added a band to add length to the top and finished her off! (Thanks to Nikki of Beaute J’Adore for the suggestion!!)
